ABOUT GIBSON GODDESS

When I was 13 and struggling with confidence, my dad always told me that I was beautiful.

He told me that I should be proud to be a Gibson, and went on to share a little piece of history with me about “The Gibson Girl.”

In the late 1800s, an illustrator named Charles Dana Gibson submitted a drawing that appeared on the cover of LIFE Magazine of his depiction of the “Ideal American Beauty” in which he titled “The Gibson Girl.”

She was beautiful, with an hourglass figure, perfect hair and makeup… She was powerful, independent and strong, yet soft and at ease.

She was the “Ideal Woman” in America.

He went on to tell me how important it was that I was the only true “Gibson Girl” in the family.  The other women on the Gibson side had taken the last names of their husbands and fathers, and I was truly the only female who carried on the name.
“Be proud to be a Gibson Girl,” he told me.

September of 2021 was the last time I saw my father

My father walked me down the aisle as Leah Gibson, and after a few minutes and and exchange of vows, I became Leah Rahman.

Three short months later, in December of 2021, I buried my father

I am clear about two things:

  1. The importance of photography - what a gift it is to be able to capture these moments in people’s lives such that they get to revisit those memories over and over again. There is nothing I cherish more than the photos of me dancing with my daddy on my wedding day.

  2. My father’s legacy lives on through me. He was so proud of me. The Gibson name continues on with me even though I have a new last name. I will always and forever be a Gibson Girl.

However, The Gibson Girl has evolved

Standards in beauty today have gone to a new level of extreme, and the women of our world are twisting and contorting themselves in ways that are unhealthy and dishonoring of their natural beauty.

The Gibson Goddess is the new standard in beauty.
The Gibson Goddess is the everyday woman.
She is perfect, whole and complete, with every flaw, scar, bump, lump and bruise.
She radiates her beauty from within,
She is connected to something bigger than herself,
She values deep connection - to herself and to others.
She owns her power and her light.

And that power is inside each of us.  Whether we are connected to it or not, it’s there.  Men have their own version of this.  That inner King that owns his truth and is connected to his divinity.

And that’s what’s at the heart of my work.

My mission in this world using my gift of photography, is to illuminate that divinity within others.  That in a photoshoot with me - whether it be a solo session like boudoir or branding, or a session with others like family or couples photos… you fall in love.  With yourself, with the other person or people, with your story.  That you actually experience the sacredness of yourself and your life and the reason you started exploring doing a photoshoot to begin with.

I’m just here to reflect you back to you.
